Velocity Group, an Ohio-based contract manufacturer specializing in high-mix, low- to mid- volume assembly, injection molding and tooling, is opening a new 70,500-square-foot manufacturing facility that triples the company’s production capacity and introduces a highly specialized capability for medical device and life science applications: performing injection molding within a clean room.
While clean rooms are standard for medical device assembly and Velocity Group has offered FDA Class 7 Clean Room Assembly for many years, the ability to execute the injection molding process inside a clean room provides critical contamination control and time-saving benefits. It:
- Eliminates the need for a separate sterilization process to remove airborne particulates that can contaminate sensitive devices such as those involving implants, drug contact or precision mechanisms
- Uses high efficiency filtration, tightly regulated airflow and strict operator protocols including disposable clean suits, masks and sterile gloves
- Meets customer demand from medical device companies seeking higher cleanliness standards
Opening in July, the new plant will consolidate three previous facilities enabling engineering, toolmaking, injection molding and sub assembly to be fully co-located, allowing for faster iteration, improved process validation and tighter alignment with quality system requirements.
It also will take lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to the next level and enable more seamless and collaborative operation across all stages of production. The result will be faster speed-to-market, improved quality control and stronger outcomes for customers.
