Star Cutter Adds Medical Industry Specialist to Sales Network

Star Cutter has added Shop Solutions (Columbia City, Indiana), owned by Matt Dahms, to its sales network with a goal of expanding the company’s presence within the medical industry. Shop Solutions specializes in manufacturing solutions for surgical tools used in orthopedic applications.

“We are excited to have Matt representing our NXT tool grinders within the medical community,” said Brad Lawton, Star Cutter Chairman and CEO. “His extensive knowledge of surgical tool manufacturing and connections within industry will be a great benefit to us as well as to our customer base.”

Dahms has been involved in the cutting tool industry for over 35 years, with knowledge of surgical cutting devices that extends back to his tenure working for Zimmer Biomet in Warsaw, Indiana in the early ’90s. He founded Oak View Tooling in 1996 and sold it 13 years later. In 2009, he started Shop Solutions to help companies enter the surgical cutting devices market and to improve grinding and other processes for manufacturers within this sector. He is also involved with helping career academies and high schools develop their hands-on skilled trades programs.

Star Cutter recently announced a partnership where its NXT 5-axis grinders come pre-set for easy installation of purchased ESPRIT CAM software. This packaged solution is aimed at assisting manufacturers of complex medical tooling, such as hip rasps, rotary files, bone files and drills, etc. Having certified ESPRIT post processors on the NXT ensures faster launch and error-free program code every time. Customers that already have ESPRIT can add the Star Cutter NXT’s digital machine package to their existing license and program the NXT using the software they already own.

Star Cutter Company comprises over 500 employees working in six manufacturing facilities within five manufacturing divisions. Each manufacturing facility specializes in producing a specific type of product or service: solid carbide cutting tools, carbide blanks and preforms, gundrills, gear cutting tools, and 5-axis CNC tool and cutter grinding machines.
