Victrex’s high-performance PEEK Optima HA-Enhanced polymer for spinal fusion implants has passed biocompatibility testing in China. Medical device manufacturers in the U.S. and EU already offer implants based on the material, which is available from Invibio Biomaterial Solutions, the medical business of Victrex.
Biocompatibility testing of the material, which combines PEEK Optima with hydroxyapatite osteoconductive material, has been successfully completed at the China Food and Drug Administration. The company notes that results from 26-week bone implantation are particularly significant, because they may help reduce the time involved in the application process when medical device manufacturers seek CFDA approval.
