Strategic Expansion at the Heart of German Precision Manufacturing

Blueprints of Acrotec Medtech's expanded production facility in Germany

The opening of a new, state-of-the-art production and automation extension at Friedrich Daniels’ Solingen, Germany, site marks a significant evolution in the company’s mission to better serve the global orthopedic device market.

This expansion is not just a matter of increasing output; it represents a shift toward intelligent, traceable and efficient production driven by automation and digitalization to meet the increasingly complex needs of OEMs, start-ups and health systems.

Meeting the Evolving Demands of Orthopedics

The global orthopedic sector is evolving fast. Surgeons and hospitals seek ever more specialized instruments, often custom-designed for specific procedures or implants. Meanwhile, OEMs are under pressure to shorten development cycles, ensure perfect traceability and reduce time to market.

Friedrich Daniels answers these challenges with a strategy based on vertical integration, high-end automation and long-term partnerships. The company offers both contract manufacturing and co-development services, which are valued by start-ups and scale-ups in orthopedics and spine.

“At Friedrich Daniels, we believe in precision manufacturing that remains human-centered, agile and deeply connected to its clients,” said Armin Daniels, Co-CEO of Friedrich Daniels. “This new production extension is a strategic investment and a bold statement of our commitment to excellence. It allows us to respond faster and more flexibly, without ever compromising quality.”

Future-Ready Manufacturing. The expanded Solingen facility features 17 CNC machining centers (3 to 5 axes), 10 high-precision turning centers, waterjet cutting systems, EDM (electrical discharge machining), laser marking and automated cleaning systems— all linked through digital monitoring systems.

These technologies not only boost production capacity but also ensure absolute consistency in quality, which is vital for components used in spinal, trauma and extremity surgeries. Every step of the process, from raw material to finished device, is fully traceable and compliant with ISO 13485 and FDA requirements.

Moreover, the increased automation reduces lead times, even for small batches or customized components, offering OEMs the flexibility they need in a dynamic market.

Instruments to Implants. While Friedrich Daniels is widely known for its surgical instruments, especially in spine, trauma and foot & ankle, the company is increasingly becoming a go-to partner for implants. Thanks to its expertise in machining titanium, cobalt-chrome and orthopedic-grade stainless steel, the company naturally supports customers as they expand from instrumentation to implant design and production.

This dual capability makes Friedrich Daniels especially attractive for start-ups developing complete procedural solutions or OEMs looking to streamline their supplier base.

Customization at the Core. Friedrich Daniels works closely with engineers, surgeons and device designers to develop surgical instruments that are not only technically precise but also ergonomically optimized for use.

Options span material selection, tip geometry, shaft diameter and length, handle ergonomics and surface treatments. From rapid prototyping to design-for-manufacture adjustments, Friedrich Daniels brings both expertise and flexibility to the table.

As part of its partnership model, the company frequently co-develops new instruments based on client sketches or concepts, offering feedback on feasibility, regulatory compliance and industrialization paths.

Culture of Innovation. As part of the Acrotec Medtech group, Friedrich Daniels has further strengthened its capabilities through access to a broad medtech ecosystem. Acrotec brings together specialized companies across micro-mechanics, implants and high-precision machining, with many based in Switzerland and France.

This collaboration gives Friedrich Daniels access to complementary services such as surface treatments, laser welding, clean room assembly and packaging, allowing the company to serve clients with comprehensive solutions within a validated regulatory environment.

The synergy also fosters innovation. “Through Acrotec, we benefit from a knowledge-rich network that allows us to co-create, scale up and remain at the forefront of technological change,” Daniels said.

Speed, Reliability and Proximity. One of Friedrich Daniels’ greatest assets is its proximity to clients. Unlike many offshore manufacturers, the company prides itself on its responsiveness, short communication loops and cultural alignment with European and North American customers.

Its teams are multilingual, technically trained and committed to client satisfaction from initial design brief to production and delivery. The Solingen site offers rapid prototyping and pre-series capabilities, helping customers de-risk their development phase while accelerating their go-to-market strategy.

Combined with German engineering tradition and Swiss-linked collaboration, this approach makes Friedrich Daniels a uniquely dependable partner.

Sustainability and Regulatory Assurance. Environmental responsibility is an integral part of Friedrich Daniels’ ethos. The new production extension was designed with energy efficiency in mind and integrates resource-saving processes, including coolant recovery, waste reduction and digital production optimization.

All processes meet ISO 13485:2016 standards, and the company is FDA registered. It also supports clients with documentation and process traceability necessary for CE and 510(k) approvals.

Precision Powered by People and Process

The expansion of Friedrich Daniels’ Solingen facility is more than a milestone; it’s a reflection of a long-term vision rooted in craftsmanship, supported by cutting-edge technology, and focused on partnership.

As orthopedic care becomes more personalized and performance-driven, companies like Friedrich Daniels are setting the pace with flexible, intelligent manufacturing solutions that keep innovation close to the patient.

Whether for next-gen spinal implants or custom surgical kits, Friedrich Daniels is proving that precision can, and should, be both local and global.
