Infographic: Orthopedic Industry Revenue 2020 vs. 2019

Orthopedic industry revenue declined more than 10% in 2020 vs. 2019, according to ORTHOWORLD®’s early estimates. COVID-19 forced unprecedented challenges that nearly shut down elective procedures in April and May before the market rebounded impressively through the third quarter and then flattened in the fourth quarter.

The nature of orthopedic conditions meant that not all markets experienced the same decreases in revenue. Knee replacements were postponed, resulting in a 15% decline in 2020 revenue vs. 2019. However, the trauma market only experienced a decrease in revenue of about 3% from 2020 vs. 2019. Industry executives and analysts project 2021 revenue to be on par with 2019, when the industry surpassed $53 billion.
