Video: Orchid CEO Talks COVID-19’s Impact on Orthopedics

While COVID-19 continues to bring uncertainty to the orthopedic industry, the pandemic is likely to present opportunities for manufacturers with nimble strategies and strong cash positions.

“COVID has been a stress test for the business strategies of every company,” said Orchid Orthopedic Solutions CEO Jerry Jurkiewicz. “If you think about it, some of the worst things you could ever contemplate, both capacity risks and demand risks, are all happening like a Jack-in-the-Box for industries across the world. It’s forced people to look at the weak parts of their strategy and think, maybe I should do something about them quicker, which I think from the contract manufacturer space represents real opportunity—for certainly the well-positioned ones, it represents an opportunity.”

In our interview, Mr. Jurkiewicz also discusses:

  • The recovery of joint replacement and spine procedures
  • COVID-19’s impact on the orthopedic supply chain
  • How the pandemic will shape orthopedic device company and contract manufacturer relationships
