GS1 published a resource to help improve supply chain operations through use of unique product identification. The GTIN Adoption and Usage Model is a self-assessment tool to gauge progress in usage of Global Trade Item Number® (GTIN). The GTIN is a unique identification number assigned to medical devices to track products as they move through the supply chain. The use of GTIN is aimed at improving patient safety and supply chain efficiency.
Both supply chain efficiency and unique device identification have been topics of discussion at OMTEC and in BONEZONE for several years. The newly published resource for GTIN usage offers tools to assess supply chain capabilities and better leverage the benefits of GTIN in end-to-end processes.
